The GMOA says Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne should inform the Supreme Court the Government’s decision on abolishing SAITM when the court takes up the case tomorrow.

Earlier the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) had appealed to the Supreme Court against a Court of Appeal ruling that two MBBS graduates who passed out of SAITM be provisionally registered.

The SC is to take up the appeal filed by the SLMC today and a ruling given on it.

GMOA's Assistant Secretary Navin de Zoysa said they had told the Harsha de Silva Committee that the Health Minister should convey its stance to the Supreme Court.

He said the GMOA would resort to trade union action if the minister failed to do so. (Dayaseeli Liyanage)

Supreme court is independent and supreme, hence let them take their own independent legal decision.

    DD Sunday, 12 November 2017 06:55 PM

HM's words are not transparent. That is why they want the confirmation from the courts.

    MP Sunday, 12 November 2017 06:56 PM

Supreme court is independent, supreme and trustworthy.

Wonder who is running the country now! Is it GMOA or the government?

    Rohantha Sunday, 12 November 2017 07:53 PM

The way govt is doing, GMOA will do a better job

    Mahila Monday, 13 November 2017 03:22 AM

GMOA has not been elected by the Lankan voters to govern the country. They are an association of government employed doctors whose main aim is as the trade union protecting Doctors' rights and Primarily promoting their welfare, including private praxtice. So better for the GMOA to leave the governing to those so have been elected.

Citizen Perera Sunday, 12 November 2017 05:06 PM

It seems this country rule by Trade unions, GMOA, Temples,University students etc...

    Mandy Monday, 13 November 2017 10:01 AM

There are a vast majority outside these Trade unions, GMOA, Temples,University students etc... DM please conduct regular polls weekly to get proper public views.

There are few faces we don't want to see here and this is one of those.........

    citizen Sunday, 12 November 2017 06:27 PM

The court has given verdict that SAITM MBBS is entitled legally to internship. Why not?

    harisl Sunday, 12 November 2017 06:43 PM

GMOA is basically asking the government to influence the courts (king them to break the law). The very thing they were accusing them of doing when the SITAM was in place . GMOA can't have it both ways.

Sozya is a very talented doc. Regardless of his fight towards what he believes in

    Aruna Sunday, 12 November 2017 11:46 PM

Talented doc?? He is a talented union leader and I doubt whether he practices medicine at all

    WalUura Monday, 13 November 2017 06:36 AM

Don't know what he's talented with, but he's definitely not a doctor! A doctor is a healer, not a killer.

    alex Monday, 13 November 2017 08:23 AM

that is immaterial his selfish decisions affect the future of the younger generations

    kamal2 Sunday, 12 November 2017 07:26 PM

Rajitha doesn't want to do this,he is not a part and parcel of this compromise the solution is Harsha's under direction of the president, hope he will take special care to end this problem

    MP Monday, 13 November 2017 07:14 AM

Yes, unlike Rajitha, Harsha is straightforward and trustworthy.

hari Mani Sunday, 12 November 2017 08:16 PM

Our old belief system in Trade unions, religious leaders, and corrupt politicians are ruining this great country....Time for a new, open and a fair system away from all these selfish bodies.

    Shrikharan Sunday, 12 November 2017 08:23 PM

Certainly it shows that the Government is weak and cannot make proper decisions. GMOA, and trade unions, rule the country

    gamini Monday, 13 November 2017 08:25 AM

it is not a sign of weakness but tolerance and rule of law and democracy where dissent is tolerated and not "white vanned"

    ceylon Sunday, 12 November 2017 09:23 PM

now sirisena is not president.gmoa is runing the country.shame on stupid sena via DM Android App

    Ram Monday, 13 November 2017 01:21 AM

Though SAITM is abolished the private medical education will commence soon at Malabe SAITM premises with a new name and proper guidelines. In my view SC must dictate the guidelines to be followed in the future PMC

    Mahila Monday, 13 November 2017 03:48 AM

GMOA has not been elected by the Lankan voters to govern the country and has no mandate. Basically, GMOA is an association of government employed doctors, whose main aim is as the trade union protecting Doctors' rights and primarily promoting their welfare, including private practice to enhance their flock - Doctors. So, suggestion for the GMOA to leave the governing, to those, elected by the people as their intervention on medical education may be construed as Mala Fide and could be and self-serving the interests of their members as trade union.

    Subash Monday, 13 November 2017 05:05 AM

It is unfortunate to see the last line that would resort to trade union actions if not. This clearly undermines any goodwill on the part of the GMAO.

    Mohan Monday, 13 November 2017 08:31 AM

Government should abolish the SAITM and create a new private medical college with proper standards. All qualified students of SAITM will be absorbed into new private medical college. Ministry of higher education should set up rules and laws for private universities and create new monitoring body. UGC will monitor only state universities.

GMOA WANTS TO SAFEGUARD DR PANDENIYA BY GOVT INFORMING COURT THAT SAITM IS ABOLISHED

Ronnie Bugger Monday, 13 November 2017 08:56 AM

My goodness, now these clowns have started to dictate to the Government. Will the Government cow down or get stern with these mothers.

Suneth Perera Monday, 13 November 2017 09:26 AM

I think the minister Rajitha should resolve this matter in a proper way avoiding further burning to the economy. Dragging for years and come up with the decision that could have taken right from the beginning of the issue.
