A video footage captured following the joint opposition-led protest held at Hambantota today, showed a senior police officer assaulting an arrested protester.
Meanwhile, posting the video on his Twitter page, MP Namal Rajapaksa asked, “A.S.P. Daluwaththa, is this Yahapalanaya?”
When contacted, Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said he was yet to see the video.

Not an issue. A court order was issued, misbehaved, controlled by police. Now govt cannot be lenient as the country is in the developing stage. I think Lee Kwan Liu methods are required to control the thuggery.

Lee Kwan was not a robber like this yamapaalana fellowes. Whole country will come to road at very neat future against the government. Police and Army won't be able to prevent it. You wait and see.

You are a bloody fool to make such a comment hiding behind "AM". Court order or not, the police can't assault people for whatever reason. The goon cop must be taken to task and so should idiots like you, AM.

Law in the hands of uniformed officers! Guess this protest haven't disrupted the lives of innocent people as was done by the GMOA and why not the same treatment is given for them?

I regret to inform that Harry is a psychopath. His theory was used by Idi Amin in 70s. To my understanding is the law is under the supremacy of courts the law and the police have been appointed to maintain the civil law.

If the Bar Association has any balls then it should mount a private prosecution using its best Lawyers against the thug in uniform. Otherwise close your Association.

Bar association of Sri Lanka is the most respectable independent organization in this country, I really condemn Mr. Kumar's opinion.

Yahapalana is not something that allow rogues to come to the street to protest and create mayhem by breaking the court order. Police office should be promoted for doing his job at a time like this.

Why the leaders of the protest were not locked up? Its only the poor supporters who were locked up. Is this the result of a DEAL?

Please remember that polices personal are also human beings and they don't posses special powers. They are most of the time under pressure from duty as well as politicians and having to deal with such hooligans.

Hon. Parliamentarian Namal Rajapakshe is the choreographer and responsible person in this action. How can Police control without mild physical action, If you compare Chennai Sri Lankan High commission was attacked Tamil people in Tamilnadu in this Event, There is no different.

Why was this Senior police Officer not wearing his Cap which is an official issue??If he is in uniform as seen, he must put on the Cap too as it is an official issue. How could decipline be maintained when a senior Officer flout it?This improperly dressed Police officer must be given a Charge Sheet and then charge for assaulting a non-violent arrested person without any provocation.
