Stern trade union action would be taken if President Maithripala Sirisena failed to reveal the government’s stance on SAITM within Monday as promised, the GMOA warned a short while ago.
Addressing a press conference, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said a discussion was held with the President last Friday over the SAITM issue.
During the discussion, he said the President pledged to reveal the stance on Monday. He said the day had almost ended and the President’s words had become lies. (By Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Why does the media give these rowdies a public forum to publish their threats and nonsensical comments free of charge? If they want to publish their nonsense they shall place ads in newspapers and pay for that.

Final decision should be, SAITM to continue as a private medical college with necessary standards. If you GMOA, IUSF or any others cannot accept that and resort to any trouble making, all the leaders should be arrested for disturbing law and order and public life.
Ajith Monday, 28 August 2017 04:40 PM
President has more important things to do for the country than working to fulfill some peoples ego.
Ram Monday, 28 August 2017 04:49 PM
GMOA took stern action a few times but still no progress. Next stern action may result in GMOA receiving a bit of medicine from the Public that they are likely to remember for life
joseph Monday, 28 August 2017 04:51 PM
Is the GMOA more powerful than the president ?
max Monday, 28 August 2017 04:56 PM
As long as Rajitha is there as the minister, not only the health sector but the entire yahapa govt will come down soon. Mr. President, not false pledges but the right actions are needed!
marasinhe Monday, 28 August 2017 08:19 PM
well said. arrogant Rajitha leads the health sector and the government in to the suicidal path.
sofia Monday, 28 August 2017 09:39 PM
Rajitha has done the most as a Minister. He has implemented the senaka bibile report and reduced medicine prices. Doctors do nt like that as commissions now less. He has toughened smoking ban. He has brought down Lab test prices. So 10% less to doctors from that. Heart ops cheape with stents free. No wonder GMOA angry with him.
Sharon Monday, 28 August 2017 05:00 PM
From 100 day program, all are lies Dr.

What arrogance Monday, 28 August 2017 05:46 PM
" the President pledged to reveal the stance on Monday. He said the day had almost ended and the President’s words had become lies." -knowing you fellows - there are doubts whether you'll are lying or not. And that you'll are day dreaming on what happened at that meeting. What ever said and done - better come down a peg or two in te use of your words - The more arrogant you get the more will be your downfall.
Stern action Monday, 28 August 2017 06:10 PM
" Stern action " ! ! ! ! ! - An authority MASTER pulling up a humble SLAVE, - It is high time these rascals are cut down to size.
TAKE ACTION NOW Monday, 28 August 2017 06:17 PM
High time no sympathy is shown on all issues which have arisen due to the GMOA. Firstly take immediate action on the contempt of court by are long forgotten hand shaker , then prison sentences for those who damaged govt property, expel students who do not attend lectures and any other matters. It is these in-actions which makes GMOA " talk big" .
Lokka Monday, 28 August 2017 06:30 PM
Govt too should take stern action if GMOA resort to strike.

We have a President who has worked himself into such a weak ruler that eve trade unions dare to threaten him in public. They have told the President what they want and expect him to deliver whether he agrees or not.
dhan Monday, 28 August 2017 07:16 PM
what is 'stern trade union action' mean-one day, no-work putting poor people in trouble and after 4pm rush to private clinic, but don't let students to go back lectures, what ever happen to their future
Patient Monday, 28 August 2017 07:16 PM

Stern action should be taken to open more and more Private Medical Collage with up to the standards. Do not isolate student of SAITM at this time.
arnold Monday, 28 August 2017 10:20 PM
It is amazing that every body is attempting to find fault with GMOA, they may be wrong or correct that is a separate thing, but president being the most authoritative one and who has agreed to give a reply on monday. Why the president disappoint a whole set of people who participated in this friday meeting, namely GMOA, university faculty heads, parents of the medical students etc..
NEXT STOP - WHERE ? Tuesday, 29 August 2017 07:57 AM
GMOA after the first meeting (with the President ) wormed in for another audience with the President. Having no other avenues - wonder where their perahera will head next time.
Fast Tuesday, 29 August 2017 01:18 PM
Don't worry - Why not a fast unto death - with advice from WW of (lemon puff fame) and for MR to bail them out with thambili water - location at tge event to be Kanatta roundabout.

I have a question... Would you the GMOA who think so highly of yourself, would have gone on strike and questioned the President if MR was in charge... So please don't kid yourself, get back to work save a few sick people or GET LOST !
Senerath Mohottala Tuesday, 29 August 2017 01:02 PM
Now the matter is before Supreme Court . GMOA was also allowed to intervene at their request . Why cant GMOA wait till court decides without harassing poor patients.Senerath

THE PRESIDENT WILL GIVE ALL OF YOU A KITE AND ASK YOU TO GO TO GALLE FACE AND FLY IT ALONG WITH MR AND THE JO
Apsara Sunday, 10 September 2017 12:13 PM
Most of the GMOA members are ungrateful to the hands they fed them. They got free education from poor masses tax payments and taking these poor patients for ransom via their STERN action (strikes).
