Wijeyadasa not common candidate: JO

The joint opposition today refuted the allegation that former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe would contest the general election as the common candidate of the JO.

Addressing a news briefing, MP Dilum Amunugama said the joint opposition never went behind any common candidate and would not do so in future.

“We will field our own candidate, not a common candidate,” he said.

However, when asked if the JO would accept MP Rajapakshe to their party, MP Amunugama said they would accept not only MP Rajapakshe but anyone who were willing to join them.

He said the JO would not have any special meeting with MP Rajapakshe or any other individual as long as they followed the same ideology.

He said the removal of ministerial portfolios from Mr. Rajapakshe reflected the extent to which the UNP would go to take revenge on their opponents.

“Although the party gave MP Rajapakshe a deadline to withdraw the statements he made over the Hambantota Port, he didn’t to do so. He stood by his word and therefore, the UNP wanted him removed,” MP Amunugama said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

Poor Wije. Now we have got another washed out politician like Tissa Attanayaka. JO waited till he was kicked out, to make this statement. Maybe they might offer him the future Prime Ministers job now. It would be enough to keep him going till he vanishes from the scene like Tissa Attanayake.

Any more development on the latest surface to surface missile Wijedasa Rajapaksa, made in Sri Lanka as a joint venture project funded by Rajapaksa and Sons Ltd and their fully owned subsidiary, JO (PLC), had been called off. This was revealed by a company representative at a jointly held news briefing last night. According to the company spokesman, the missile Wijedasa Rajapaksa on its latest test run, had exploded halfway and had crashed in to the sea. People in Hambantota had seen debris of the missile falling into the port last evening. Luckily no one was injured as there were no ships, but the missile was a right off. Inside sources say that the project had been plagued by problems from the beginning and the misguided missile had been destroyed on orders given by the hon. President responding to an urgent request made by UN (P) Forces when they had observed that the missile was making erratic maneuvers and was heading towards their camp.
