The GMOA said today the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital (NFTH) was acquired by the government on a lease agreement.

GMOA Secretary Haritha Aluthge told a news conference the GMOA would consider the acquisition as one carried out without any transparency. He said Dr. Fernando or Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne should brief the country about terms and conditions involved in the transaction.

He said even though the NFTH was acquired by the government it had not resolved the SAITM controversy.

GMOA Assistant Secretary Naveen De Zoysa said NFTH was built at a cost of Rs.3.5 billion with a loan of Rs.2 billion granted by a State bank.

He said the government was allowing the hospital 10 years to settle the loan but the salaries and other costs would be borne by the government and asked on what basis was the government claiming that it had taken over the NFTH. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

There is always some issue, why can't GMOA do something useful for Sri Lanka and her patients like making efforts to improve the healthcare in this country, without wasting everyone's time with your needless bickering, start working for the people.

General public have no issues with the government for the correct steps taken. Many parents are waiting to admit their children to SAITM without sending them overseas. It is cheaper to study locally than sending overseas.

Either you or minister Rajitha is lying. During some news today, I clearly heard the minister saying that Dr Neville Fernando has agreed to settle the bank loan in full. If correct, you are talking without knowing the facts and deserves a kick in the butt. If not, the minister deserves the same. One of you are misleading the masses. Lets wait and see.

Cost of hospital is Rs.3.5 billion with a loan of Rs.2 billion granted by a State bank. Government makes 1.5 billion profit from Dr Neville, basically government i.e.: the people benefit from this. The revenue earned will be channeled back to the government. We are lucky this was done. Think about hotels like taj, sheraton which are private enterprise and where the profits are going, out of SL, here the profits are retained within the country. We should push and promote SAITM, cause once the other private medical universities bring FDI and create jobs, SAITM will need to complete with them, but at least the profits are chanel back to a srilankan who is more likely to reinvest locally.

GMOA would you please shut your big mouth, Ask JVP to talk now as they are your guardians. Don't try to teach the government what to do, You behaved like dogs used their tails as amude during Rajapaksa's regime.

That's what happens when you acquire something to govt. and provide services free of charge. There'll be no income to the govt. but always expenses. Is it that hard to understand this simple procedure?
