Trishaw drivers are believed to be operating a racket targeting luxury vehicles in Colombo to claim money, sources said.
They said several incidents had been reported, where trishaw drivers had claimed money from unsuspecting motorists claiming that the side mirrors of their trishaws had been damaged.
It was also reported that in some of the cases when the motorists got out of their vehilces to negotiate the culprits had fled off with the wallets.
The Police advised motorists to complain to the nearest police station in case they were victims of such incidents.

I fully agree with all comments concerning 3 wheelers .Please take one thing into our consideration. If all those 3 wheelers decide to stay away from the roadsfor a couple of days, I am convinced in Colombo all prevailing system will be collapsed. If government is not able to provide functioning transfort services ,all those three wheelers are the kings of the road. Since 2/3 of urban population depend of them on their day-today needs.

The 3 Wheelers are an absolute menace in the country. They need to be either taken off the streets or there needs to be a control in awarding licences/permits to such owners. If at all they are allowed to operate, there has to be a strict police control on their driving habits and heavy penalties imposed upon them should they break the law.

Most of these tri-shaw drivers utterly lack respect and common courtesy. Its because of their lawlessness and filthy attitudes that even the USA and other countries are warning tourists to be aware of them. They are involved in all the crime so rampant today in our beautiful country. Hope they will be regulated by law.

This has been going on for a long time. It is well known that many criminal activities are carried out using trishaws.

Take a minute to read this as it may help and save you.In a event like this or similar mainly at night immediatelytake your mobile and photograph the vehicle mainly the number plate. Then if possible get a picture of the person who stopped you or hit your vehicle , then send picture toyour family or friend . Keep your doors locked and windows up at all times do not get out till your picture has been sent.

Not only Trishaw Drivers. There are young racketeers down Armour Street who strike the side of the vehicle with their hand and then pretend that they were hit by the vehicle. All these crooks should be locked up.

Unregulated trishaw should be banned. Anyway the trishaw is a trade mark of a third world country. Hope they disappear from the surface of the planet soon.
Plain clothes police Wednesday, 28 June 2017 05:29 PM
The solution will be for the police to travel plain clothes in unmarked vehicles and nab the errant trishaw drivers.
