Senior State Counsel Dileepa Pieris today requested Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandra to inquire from previous Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitya about the missing or misplaced passport and national identity card handed over to Court by Shashi Weerawansa in 2015.
At the hearing he informed the Chief Magistrate that according to the CID the passport and NIC handed over to Court were lost or misplaced.
However, Colombo Chief Magistrate directed Court Registrar C.D.W. Wickramatunga to produce Ms. Weerawansa’s passport and NIC in Court on the next call date.

Of course the staff responsible for safe keeping should be investigated and fined heavily. Besides, surely the Passport and Registrar of Persons Dept., will be able to produce certified copies of these vital documents.
