Minister Rauff Hakeem said today a Parliament Select Committee (PSC) should be appointed to look into issues concerning archaeological sites and wildlife and national parks.

He said the recent decisions on archaeological sites, wildlife and national parks had created problems for political parties which represent people in the North and East and that a lasting solution should be provided for these contentious issues through a PSC.

The minister said this in response to a statement made by Deputy Minister Anurada Jayaratne, in response to a question asked by JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake regarding archaeological sites in the Ampara District.

He said that statements on vandalism of archaeological sites would create wrong impressions among the people and added that the matter should be discussed at length with relevant officials in the district.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said he would discuss the matter of appointing a PSC at the next party leaders' meeting. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Does he wants to destroy remaining and let the next generation know that this area was allocated visited by Ibn Bathutha and is for Muslims ? .Recent example is that th Sembuwatta lake which is being used by hikers for years has become a such place. Spineless gvt has to protect the historical places across the country but they play blind. If some one says that going against destruction/Land acquiring is an action against a religion ,what we the public can expect ?

Hakeem,What do you want ? Do you want to destroy the National Parks, Archeological sites and wild life of this country and destroy Sri Lanka. Stay as you are now as we will vever allow anybody to touch those areas specifically for political reasons. You all came here as traders of spices, menik and Ivory and do nt forget that.North and East of the country do not belong to you as it is Sri Lanka and it iss good for you to stoop your bickering right now.No discussion required on vandalism of Arcahelogical Sites, BUDDHA Statues and encroaching National Parks.Hereafter , no any particular area where people can be settled down only for a single race anywhere in the country. If you try to do that, you will get the same fate of Prabhakaran who did ethnic cleansing in the North.
