Khaki police uniforms worn by police personnel will soon be replaced by blue uniforms, IGP Pujith Jayasundara said yesterday.

Speaking at an event in Ella, Jayasundara said most police departments in the world had blue uniforms.

“We thought the department needed a change so we decided to change our uniforms to a dark blue. We will implement this soon,” he said.

Jayasundara said he hoped the change would push the police department in a new direction.(Darshana Sanjeewa)

Your department gym membership and most of all good qualities such not collecting of bribes afterwards your suggestion to change uniforms is good. why not think a multicolored one cause you also act like a clown i think such a uniform would look appropriate poojitha, so could you please consider that

Changing colour is very good. Khaki colour is suppressive . All units wants to have khaki . rilway . PHI . etc etc to scare citizens . colonial menatality . Change is good. Blue is a people friendly colour.

I believe the Blue uniform is a good choice, however there needs to be changes done in the mindset of the force and the public acceptance, this won't happen over night. SL P O L I C E has too much bribery and corruption, for example all traffic cops should have a camera on them, a visible name tag etc., small changes can make a big difference.

What's the point? Blue uniforms may look smarter. Please get your team to change the attitude also. Otherwise you will not achieve anything. Only a huge waste of public money.
