Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Trade Union Collective to launch an indefinite strike from midnight today demanding the government to halt the proposed agreement to be signed with India regarding the Trincomalee oil tanks, union said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, the CPC Union Media Spokesman Bandula Saman Kumara said after many failed discussions held with the Petroleum Resources Development Minister Chandima Weerakody they have decided to launch the island wide strike to safeguard the CPC and its resources.

Mr. Kumara said island wide oil distribution will be interrupted due to the trade union action.
“Oil will not be issued tomorrow from Kolonnawa, Muthurajawela, Sapugaskanda and the 12 oil storages established around the country,” he warned. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

if we own oil well no question over it - keep away the childish move - think about the country - how many billions US dollars per Annam to service this sector - right time to go for a support - who support the transport industry, Pharmaceuticals and other vital industries in Sri Lanka?

Rajitha Seneviratne Monday, 24 April 2017 10:36 PM

For the first time in my life I am supporting a trade union action despite all the hardships. The people of yesteryear built that massive complex of oil tanks and handed it over to us to be passed on to the next generations to come. How dare we sell them out to India? Those are not ours to sell. They belong to the people who paid tax money back in the day and the courageous leadership back then.Mr. Prime Minister please sell your grandfather's grave to India that would be more honorable than selling things don't belong to you

Our corporations are making profits becaue of lack of competition with low productivity. To move forward we need institutions with high productivity so that every cent we spend on wages is of high value through high productivity. Now we spend a days wage for eight hours but only 4 hours work output and that money thereby loses value.

Socialism at it's best! When people without brains try to run government policies.

sudath fernando Sunday, 23 April 2017 10:13 PM

President and the govt were given powers to rule the country. This is democratically elected govt. Majority voted for them. It's not the trade union who owns this assets. It is the govt who owns it. Employees should not think they are the owners of those institutions. Why are they worried?Private sector employees work as employees. Even their owner sell it to another party they are not bothered. Govt sector employees think they own their institutions.

Trade unions making policy decisions now. Pathetic. If the government is making the correct decisions, they must stand by them. Also should not make wrong decisions paving way to all these trade unions to make a big fuss and strike. At the end of the day, its us the citizens who have to suffer.
