SAITM not a teaching hospital: Deputy Minister

The Neville Fernando-Sri Lanka Russian Friendship Hospital in Malabe is not a teaching hospital sanctioned by the Health Ministry, Parliament was informed yesterday .

A teaching hospital is one which provides practical training to medical students.

This was revealed by Deputy Minister Faizal Cassim in response to a question asked by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Nalinda Jayatissa in the House yesterday.

Dr. Jayatissa asked why the Health Ministry had failed to take action against this hospital which has gone to the extent of illegally holding to some of the body parts of the slain of former rugby captain Wasim Thajudeen.

The deputy minister said he would inform Dr. Jayatissa on what action the government intended taking with regard to this hospital. (Yohan Perera)

If it is not a teaching hospital what type of approvals given to that hospital. Let the public know type of approvals given to all private hospitals with any limitation. That will save lot of lives.

Jealous minded JVP maniacs haven't got any other work than criticizing the SAITM. If the SAITM hospital doesn't meet the required standard to be called a teaching hospital then give it the necessary facilities to be a teaching hospital because it is going to educate some of our own citizens' children. They are not aliens. After training, they will one day serve this country. So why should we harass and ruin the lives of a group of our own children?

GMOA is the hidden cat's paw of the JVP, who are jealous of the upper middle class of this country.SLMC cannot be considered as a professinal body as they are siding with the GMOA Mafia.Let the supreme court decide whether citizens of this country are entitled to a medical degree other than the one issued by state universities which only the GMOA/SLMC combine decides as a quality degree.

" Indeed. But before spending public money on such an endeavour, please integrate this SAITM to the network of government medical colleges and teaching hospitals.
