The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today welcomed the adoption of UNHRC resolution 34/L 1 which reaffirms the full implementation of resolution 30/1 of 2015, promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka.

The TNA said in a statement that it welcomed the fact that resolution 34/L 1, gives specific time frames for the Government of Sri Lanka and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to report on the successful implementation of the 30/1 resolution at the 37th and 40th UNHRC sessions respectively in 2018 and 2019.

“We urge the Government of Sri Lanka to honour its commitment with regard to these resolutions and implement the same in letter and spirit in keeping with its commitments. We also urge the government to sincerely address the issues of land release, the detention of Tamil political prisoners, grievances of the families of missing persons, and the enactment of constitutional reforms.

The Tamil people have reached their limits of tolerance, and urge that their deprivation and suffering on these several issues be brought to an early end.

We welcome the continued engagement and assistance of the international community in achieving the aforesaid. The TNA, as the elected representatives of the Tamil speaking people, reiterates its commitment to closely engage with and monitor the implementation of the UN recommendations and other proposed processes related to reconciliation and transitional justice in Sri Lanka.

The UN and the Human Rights Council and the International Community, we submit, should also take all necessary actions to ensure that the benefits of the implementation of the UN resolution are derived by the people who have been victims,” it said.

The fact that a referendum is necessary for the participation of foreign judges in war criminal proceedings is only an excuse and pure nonsense. With a two-thirds majority in Parliament, a corresponding constitutional change can take place very quickly. Remember: The constitutional amendment to allow MR further office appointments as president was decided in a very short time by Parliament.

By supporting the two more years of time to carry out the 2015 UNHCR resolutions, the TNA is also getting the time to deceive the Tamils. So far there has been GENUINE moves by the new government. Judiciary is not functioning effectively to nab the murderers and money grabbers.

TNA can not control UNHCR as some morons from Tamils expecting neither the council can force the government .This is the reality .However everybody can including UNHCR can pressurise the government to find the missing people other than who are supposed to have been dead or killed . LTTE leader should have acted with brain to safeguard his people and the soil from barbarian regime of MR which Prabakaran himself and diaspora supported to form.

You Lord ponder on this,The War went on for 30 years so why the LTTE supporters asking for investigation for only what happened in or just before May 2009.

    Sheri Sunday, 26 March 2017 04:46 PM

Some so call "missing persons" have changed their names to Sinhalese or English names. They have also gone abroad and changed their names. Some use false names to suit them, so apart from the tamils killed by their brutal barbarian leader, how can one find so called "missing persons" who have gone missing?

    Chacco Monday, 27 March 2017 04:52 PM

Sheri, Be honest and comment. Are you a Srilankan ? Why dont you study the history of killings and barbarianism of Srilankas since 1948? .
