X’mas revenue hits record on expressways

The Southern Expressway and the Katunayake Expressway amassed their highest revenues for a single day over the by Saturday, the Road Development Authority said today.

The Southern Expressway collected Rs. 18.85 million on Saturday while Rs. 9.55 million was collected by the Katunayake Expressway on Friday respectively.

Expressway Operation, Maintenance and Management Division Director S. Opanayaka said about 61,900 vehicles had used the Southern Expressway (E01) on Saturday, while approximately 33,800 vehicles had used the Katunayake Expressway (E03) on Friday (23).

“Average daily traffic on the E01 is 43,000 which is a Rs. 11.5 mn income and about 24,000 vehicles are using the E03 daily which is an approximate Rs. 6.5 million revenue for a day,”

Mr. Opanayaka said it was observed that accidents reported on both expressways had been decreased.

“Most of the drivers using the expressways are driving with good discipline,” he said.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
