A feasibility study will be carried out for the construction of a 100 MW Solar Park in Siyambalanduwa, Monaragala, the government said.
A proposal made by Power and Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, to perform a feasibility study for construction of a 100 MW Solar Park in Siyambalanduwa, Monaragala, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Accordingly, Solar Power Plants of 11.3 MW are being connected national grid and about 30 MW are being generated under net metering. Various projects have been implemented to improve the use of solar power and it has been planned to construct 03 Solar Parks with 100 MW each.
There is currently a global trend in generating electricity through renewable energy sources and a priority has been given to solar power, the Cabinet paper stated.

Solar power is good but expensive. There are high priority things to do in this country. Look at our damn public transport system and solid waste management.

This is good. What is not so good is the fact that the costs of equipment for solar power generation for individual homes is very prohibitive even for the middle income groups. Govt. should address this issue.

Solar power installations must be carried out according to international standards. Subject experts and quality product is the key to success. There are many cowboys in this solar industry. These guys install cheap solar panels with poor performance. Some crooks have moved to Sri Lanka from places such as Australia The Government needs to be careful when spending public money for such projects.If the project is carried out properly, it will be great for the country.

Please don't make comments without knowing basic facts of any investment project. Technical feasibility and financial viability along with other social, environmental etc effects needs to be studied before any financial investment is made. This applies even for personal investments
