Mobile brothel raided in Bambalapitiya: four arrested

Four persons including three women were arrested for operating a mobile brothel in Bambalapitiya early this morning.

Police said a 36-year-old male suspect who was a resident of Colombo was transporting the women in a van when they were arrested on charges of prostitution at Emilda Lane, Bambalapitiya.

Police identified the women aged between 23 and 28 as residents of Minneriya, Udawalawe and Kundasale. The suspects were produced in court today.

It is a crazy idea. Once it is legalized it will open door for human trafficking and possible forced sex workers and abduction. Pls look at Malaysia and some other neighboring countries before saying this. Such things instead of solving one problem, too many problems will arise.

When will we realise we are fighting a losing battle to eliminate prostitution in Sri Lanka. This is the oldest profession in the world and many countries have given up fighting and instead legitamised them with rules, as in the USA (Nevada) for the good and safety of everybody. In the Bunny Ranch, Nevada, the women service providers have a check-up every week and their clients are monitored. They do not recruit, but women and girls come to them, to earn some money quickly to pay a hospital bill or college fees.
