CIMA Customs laws and regulations mastercourse on Oct. 14

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Sri Lanka has organised a presentation and a panel discussion on ‘Customs laws and regulations, informed compliance and shared responsibilities’ on October 14, focusing on providing insights into the compliance requirements of the local Customs regulations. 


The presentations followed by the panel discussion will enable businesses to understand and operate in a manner where they can mitigate the risks of encountering practical and unforeseen Customs issues in the future by gaining knowledge on the practical aspects of Customs issues, increase awareness of the potential risks that may arise and by learning how to handle the impending challenges.


The presentations will be delivered by KPMG Tax and Regulatory Principal Suresh R.I. Perera and KPMG Consultant M. Ravindrakumar.


M. Ravindrakumar was a former Customs Director at Sri Lanka Customs. He has more than 38 years of experience at the Sri Lanka Customs Department and retired recently as Customs Director. He is also a WCO-accredited expert trainer in customs valuation and post clearance audit. He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Colombo and a visiting faculty member at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.


Perera is an Attorney-At-Law and a Fellow Member of CIMA. He has more than 15 years’ experience in tax and regulatory matters. He possesses a strong expertise in tax appellate procedure and has assisted clients in relation to trade and customs matters including assistance in Customs appellate procedure.


The panel would include eminent personalities from the field of customs and logistics. The panellists would be Senior Consultant Customs, Trade and Logistics T. Kananathalingam, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Import Section Chairman Dinesh De Silva, Hemas Maritime and Logistics Managing Director Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson and XPO Logistics Sri Lanka Sales and Marketing Head Peter Jasinghe. The panel discussion will be moderated by Senior Manager Tax and Regulatory Rifka Ziyard.


The event will benefit importers, exporters, accountants, freight forwarders, clearing agents, trade associations, bankers, lawyers, practitioners and students of international trade.
