Mother Sri Lanka’s (MSL) newest programmes include a youth programme involving students in both state and non-state sector higher education institutions and a series of panel discussions on social issues affecting the lives of all Sri Lankans.
“Even though many talks are held on political and economic issues, MSL feels that there is a lack of discussion on topics of vital social and personal importance. With that in mind, we have conceptualized and designed a series of talks under the theme ‘Mother Sri Lanka Future Forum’. These discussions will also support as fundraisers to support the ongoing national level school programmes as well as our future projects on livelihood development and women empowerment, which we are now undertaking as a non-governmental foundation,” said MSL Chairperson Dr. Janaki Kuruppu.
The first talk series under Future Forum will be on ‘How to select a university for my child?’
“We have found that this decision has become a time-consuming and costly issue of personal interest to many parents, in trying to select the right higher education path and the right type of university for their child,” mentioned Dr. Kuruppu. The event will be attended by an eminent panel consisting of experts in the field of higher education, which will include University of Moratuwa Vice Chancellor Prof. Ananda Jayawardena, University Grants Commission (UGC) Vice Chairman Prof. P.S.M. Gunaratne, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) Chairman Prof. Lakshman Ratnayake, Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) CEO Dr. Athula Pitigala Arachchi, Aspirations International Chairman Ajith Abesekera and Horizon Group Chairman Upul Daragama.
The event will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the BMICH Committee Room D. Tickets priced at Rs.1000 can be purchased from MSL office, No: 37, Elibank Road, Colombo 5, Rotary International School, Delkanda, Nugegoda, Vijitha Yapa Book Shop, Thurstan Road, Colombo 7, online purchases with delivery www.mothersrilanka.lk or at the entrance.
