Lankan in Kuwait arrested over ‘Inappropriate touch’

A Sri Lankan expatriate in Kuwait was arrested for touching a Kuwaiti woman inappropriately even though he claimed that he was just giving her a handshake as a way of greeting her, Arab Times reported on Thursday.

According to security sources, the Kuwaiti woman lodged a complaint at Saad Al-Abdullah Police Station against her neighbor’s Sri Lankan driver, accusing him of touching her inappropriately and running away.

After the suspect was arrested and questioned, he said he had only given her a handshake to greet her.

Necessary action was taken against him and he was detained in the police station and will be referred to the Public Prosecution.

Handshake between opposite sex other then relatives, is not allowed in Arabic culture. Expatriates should be aware of local cultural sensitivities in Gulf countries.

That is why our people should attend Sri Lanka Bureau training first before going to these foreign countries. They actually teach a lot of stuff there to avoid unnecessary trouble abroad.

This could be purely for health reason. Our man should have worn a pair of rubber or plastic gloves - this will also prevent a static shock, which is quite common in this part of the world!

Why the hell he ran away after giving handshake? probably it was a ritual of kuwait or other hand we can assume that he might knew its aftermath that was why he ran away.
