A Buddhist shrine room erected within the premises of Special Task Force camp in Kanagarayankulam, Mankulam in the North had been vandalised on Monday 29, the Police said.
The camp, established after the war victory in 2009, does not exist in that location at present. The shrine room has been constructed at the time for religious observances of the STF personnel. The Buddha statue has also been broken to pieces, the Police said.
The Police have started investigations into the incident. (Romesh Madushanka)

I doubt that Hindus,Muslims or Christians are to be blamed for such lowly acts, the present political atmosphere in Srilanka is such, that there are too many power hungry politicians roaming free and they would go to any extreme to perpetrate such heinous crimes to bring racial disharmony among our fellow citizens and bring turmoil to the beutiful country.

If no proper action is taken by the Government, the Citizens will. Hindu Temples in all other parts of the Country may not be safe and the Government should take the responsibility.

This is disgraceful act , as Tamil I always stop n pray to Lord Buddha . Most of the people have statue of lord Buddha at home. This must be done by mindless person or someone trying to stop the progress of this beautiful country.
Dappiya Wednesday, 31 August 2016 12:38 PM
Content is more important than container. Those who damage statues could only damage the container, not the content of Lord Buddha.

Are we as Buddhists still tolerating this sacrilege? Now time is up for all Buddhist monks and Buddhists to unite together irrespective politics to issue Decree of Sanga banning all government politicians being entertained at temples. They should not be allowed to visit Mahanayakas.
