Basil remanded, again

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Former Director General of the Divi Neguma Development Authority, Kithsiri Ranawaka were today ordered to be remanded till August 1 by the Kaduwela Magistrate Dhammika Hemapala.

They were remanded over the charges of misappropriating Rs. 36.5 million belonging to Divi Neguma Development Authority by purchasing and distributing GI pipes during the last Presidential Election.

The prosecution said that the former Minister had purchased the GI pipes for the use of Local Government bodies, without any request from them and distributed it during the Presidential Election for propaganda campaigns.

The FCID alleged that the suspect had committed offences under the Public Property Act and the Penal Code. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
