Southern Provincial Councillor D.V. Upul was arrested by the Hambantota police today in connection with an alleged assault on a man in Hambantota last Wednesday, police said.
They said he was released with two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each when he was produced in the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court today.
Three other suspects including Southern Provincial Councillor Moratu Hewage Lesly Jayalath, who were earlier arrested in connection with the assault had been released on bail on June 22.
