Road accident: Herath arrested; granted bail

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath was arrested by the Welikada Police after his vehicle crashed into a telephone post at Rajagiriya last night, Police said.

They said he was released on police bail today.

According to reports the traffic police is expected to file a case against him on charges of damaging public property. (Irangi Edirisinghe)

Get him to pay for the vehicle repairs. He is responsible for drunk driving, not the public. They love to preach, but when it comes to practicing, works in the opposite direction.

Reducing vehicle imports can hopefully reduce road accidents. Vehicle population in Srti Lanka is just under 29% of the human population and mostly concentrated in urban areas causing havoc to the lives of people. This is mind-boggling and it is not a way to improve our transport system. Our political culture of pleasing and rewarding their catchers with vehicles is a significant contribution to this growing menace. As long as someone can make money, everything goes - let the country go to the dogs - that is our proud heritage.
