A vast area of Uduwelawatta in the Hantana range had been declared dangerous or prone to massive landslides and about 80 families living in its environs were evacuated and provided temporary shelter at the Sri Vani Tamil School, Kandy Government Agent M.M.P. Hitisekara said.
He said a team of geologists of the National Building and Research Organisation had visited the area and was carrying on further inspections.
Meanwhile, the NBRO officials pointed out that a vast area of about ten acres in Uduwelawatta tea estate had developed a 7ft depression. ( J.A.L.Jayasinghe)
