Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazeer Ahamed would not be allowed to enter military camps and the three forces would not participate in functions attended by the Chief Minister, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) said.

Defense Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said the decision was taken after considering a request by the security forces to do so.

He said the security forces have been perturbed following the recent incident where Chief Minister Ahamed rebuked a naval officer during an event held at the Sampur Maha Vidyalaya.

    Jolly good!

    nimal Thursday, 26 May 2016 05:40 PM

I agree wholeheartedly with Asoka. This punishment (if at all it can be called a punishment) is far from enough. All state sector officials should ignore this man and he should be made to resign.

    Dayawathie Thursday, 26 May 2016 06:21 PM

Well done. He should give an unconditional public apology to the Naval Officer.

    TONY Thursday, 26 May 2016 06:38 PM

PRESIDENT AND PM SHOULD ASK THE CM TO APOLOGIZE IN THE OPEN PUBLIC

    TONY Thursday, 26 May 2016 06:41 PM

HE President, Nip the bud before its get out of hand - this type of people's representative should not be allowed or tolerated. Appreciate if he is sacked forthwith so that others will hopefully learn to respect. All armed forces and Police personnel will always have the highest regard of ourselves having sacrificed so much for the freedom we all are enjoying today. We salute all of them.

Wise Donkey Thursday, 26 May 2016 07:42 PM

Damn good for the 'protocol' man!

    udaya Thursday, 26 May 2016 08:04 PM

X calls Y an idiot. Y smiles. Words bounce off. X goes home and look in the mirror. Oh my God! whom does he see? an angry idiot staring at him.

    Jhon Thursday, 26 May 2016 08:49 PM

Well done, what is the punishment those who fought in parliament.

    IVJ Thursday, 26 May 2016 05:33 PM

Agree 100%. Media should stop addressing him as CM as he does not deserve that title. We should teach him the meaning of his famous word "protocol" (the only few words he seems to know).

    dess Friday, 27 May 2016 09:27 AM

No issue, our forces are well geared to handle any situation. They have taken a wise disciplinary decision to keep this CM idiot away.

    RR Friday, 27 May 2016 09:56 AM

You are absolutely correct. We should not give in to emotions when the security forces are involved in these type of incidents

    Ranjani Friday, 27 May 2016 10:00 AM

Please stop use of military personal to organize events where politicians participate.

    Karathelis Friday, 27 May 2016 10:30 AM

A person who does not know common courtesy should not talk of protacol.

    moodayoo Friday, 27 May 2016 11:00 AM

Why should allow him to visit state security facilities? He is just a peanut.

    Vijitha Friday, 27 May 2016 11:01 AM

Wholeheartedly disagree with CMs behavior. It is disgusting. And if the Governor has acted bit more wisely with the team spirit giving due prominence to CM's on the stage (Not to the person, but for for the Post) this could have been evaded. The need of the house is National Unity. So everyone has a role to play.

Mohamed Azmi Friday, 27 May 2016 11:33 AM

This joker needs to know the code of conduct in presence of school children before calling for protocol. This moron is a disgrace to Srilankan politics.

    Maya Friday, 27 May 2016 11:43 AM

Hello Secy, holdon! Don't trust the politicians. He is a CM just because MS party supports him. So...

    CITIZEN Friday, 27 May 2016 11:46 AM

Very good. But, if he tries to force himself give him the "Waterboard" treatment!

Get Navy to visit his place at night and knock at the door to find his well being. If not for Navy this fellow must have been hiding under a table during LTTE time...

The Forces cannot dictate to the civilian society over a dispute involving one of their own with a Govt official. The dept of Defence should take up the issue and dimiss the CM EP if necessary but that's for them to decide and NOT for the Army to decide?!

    Hassanda Thursday, 26 May 2016 01:15 PM

Hon Defence Secy Don't jump your GunOnly the Hon President ( Defence Minister ) can takeSuch decision don't be another Gota However Due respect should be accorded to our Loyal Armed ForcesBut both side of the Coin shud be investigated n wiz The Ground reality n also wat inspired at theVenueShud be referred to the Hon President I don't think a permanent Secy has this Authority

    Poorna Thursday, 26 May 2016 01:46 PM

This is very unfair and an unacceptable punishment. This man should be stripped off his rank as cheif minister

    Ahmed Thursday, 26 May 2016 12:34 PM

Appreciated your timely decision and action. It should be good lesson for all politicians, how they should behave not only common places entire life time."Without hard work and discipline it is difficult to be a top professional.'

    sobers Thursday, 26 May 2016 02:21 PM

Politicians should not think they are above the law. Good move, Discipline is very important. CM,should resign.

    vithura Thursday, 26 May 2016 02:38 PM

The boundaries of separation between the role of the armed forces and civil admin was deliberately blurred by the previous regime in line with their own agenda in contrary to democratic traditions. Hope this unpleasant episode puts a stop to forces' interference in civil matters, but it does not excuse the CM's behaviour.

Good to see the unity among the three forces, keep t up, but just wonder where was this unity when Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was humiliated and jailed? Are our forces biased?

    Upul Thursday, 26 May 2016 05:16 PM

Very good decision. I suggest that his security contingent to be removed immediately too.
