Twenty-one policemen, including the HQI of the Embilipitiya Police Station, have been temporarily transferred with immediate effect, following the death of a man in Embilipitiya, police said.

“On the instructions of DIG (Sabaragamuwa Province) Rohan Dias, these police officers were transferred pending investigations into the man's death,” said police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera.

He said the policemen had been transferred to the Kegalle and Seethawaka Police divisions.

The 29-year-old was killed falling off the third floor of a house during a clash between police and residents on Monday night.

IGP N.K. Illangakoon had instructed officials to investigate the Embilipitiya clash, the spokesman said. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

This is typical police brutality in resulting the ending of life of a innocent person. All the indications so far are that the off duty police had interfered into a private and a peaceful function in search of arrack to drink. All the police officers have been in civil clothing, hence on off duty but calling upon on people to demand favours, booze etc. If the President fails to take reasonable action, then he should expect demonstration by people seeking justice from so called Yahapalanaya.

Why do they transfer? If they have done something wrong, then interdict and charge them. That the way the justice should be maintained.
